I Am the 10%

A new photo, circulating through social networking sites, has gone viral. The photo of a little boy holding a sign that says, “I may not be perfect but I'm happy. I am God's handiwork and I bear His image. I am blessed. I am the 10% of children born with Down Syndrome who survived Roe v. Wade” tugs at the heartstrings of many across America.

The Father, who took the photo of his son Boaz, had no idea it would get so much attention, and from complete strangers. Boaz, who is almost six years old, is a high functioning child with Down syndrome. The inspiration behind the photo came from Boaz's mother after watching the new pro-life, 180 Movie. His parents wanted people to see that though their son is not 'perfect', “His life is worth living”.

Currently, due to prenatal testing, percentages as high as 95% of children diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb are aborted. This percentage is shocking. MSNBC records studies done on those with Down syndrome, and one study in particular show 99% of adults with Down syndrome are happy with their lives.

Sadly, upon hearing this diagnosis for their unborn child, thousands choose to have an abortion- presumably out of ignorance that a) life begins at conception, and b) children and adults with Down syndrome are as happy or more happy than typically developed individuals.

In the battle for life of the unborn child, this is a part of that battle that is equally as important.

I support the general gist of this, but get the facts right.  Down syndrome is only prenatally diagnosed if the mom is willing to risk the kid's life to find out in time to abort.  Moms that will give birth no matter what tend not to get the diagnosis prenatally.  I was one such mom who did not get amniocentesis despite being told my baby had a 10% chance of DS (she did not have it BTW).

I really don't know what percentage of kids with Down Syndrome are aborted, but I'm pretty sure it's less than 90%.

God Bless Boaz and his parents. There is a reason for every life on this planet.

I concur wholeheartedly with DOMA. It expresses what is seld-evident by natural law. Iyt is the only way human life and society can be preserved in it's highest form. We reject it to our own peril. The end result of that rejection is self-destruction of our society.

I agree with Sonja here... I refused to even know on all three of my children. Lets face the facts, it did not matter what child God gave me, I wanted that child.
